This generation has lost its leading Tenor Saxophonist. Michael had a true and profound impact on my life. From almost the first time I picked up the sax he was my hero and virtual mentor. I'd love to think he's jamming in a better place with John Coltrane et al.

Cheers to you.

R.I.P. Michael - Pretty sad...this guy could really play - I always dug his phrasing. He was definitely one of the better tenor players on the scene.

"Despite his illness, which later developed into leukaemia, he recorded a final album, completing it two weeks ago."

I'm buying that album. Today, I listened to Wide Angles, all the way up to Santa Barbara and all the way back. MB was a force.

another one of those moments when one must balance the sadness of loss with the joy of the gifts that a soul gave to so many people.

I saw Michael play with Paul Simon back in '93 (maybe '92?) when Simon was touring with the Brazilian rhythm section and some outrageous African bass player - Brecker really stood out as the brightest musical light on a stage that was full of intensity.

The music is good for your soul

I first heard Michael Brecker on Joni Mitchell's Shadows of Light tour in 1980. I caught one of the shows on the radio in Tempe and it was powerful stuff. Such moving and creative sax playing.
