I'm glad to see another political body join the Frey, though I don't think climbers, per see, are in danger of losing much in this. Unless of course a strip mine appears at say, the selfish with all..
I think the bigger tragedy is going to be the lack of protection for the land, and the loss of Native American tradion and cultural historic places and artifacts. Kind of like putting a mining road through Chartres or something. It's just not going to be the same.

Glad to see the Access Fund join the fight against this travesty and illegal land grab by the extraction industry.
On the other hand, if the trend continues, I could order new "El Cap" brand granite counter tops for the kitchen...

So the AF is in favor of the fixed-anchor ban?

There is / was no "fixed anchor ban" in Bears ears.
That's an Arches / Canyonlands NATIONAL PARK thing

Glad you are starting to get it.
NM status makes a ban easier to instigate (by one bureaucrat no less)and guarantees only one thing; crowds.

I'm working alongside singer/climber/fellow Gunks-local Alexis Krauss on releasing an original song/video through her management to raise funds and awareness for the Utah Dine Bikeyah, the group standing firm at the front lines to protect these lands.
As a climber I have loved the creek, and of course stand by the preservation of open spaces, but feel that an even bigger issue here is the threat to the five Native American tribes who call Bears Ears home.
Alexis and I spent a week embedded with the tribes filming and learning how they depend on the land, and it would be yet another blow to their existence to lose Bears Ears, just as they celebrate the 1-year anniversary of it being preserved.
We are asking folks across multiple industries (including the outdoor/adventure one) to share their voices, and send a 5-second video clip of themselves holding a sign that reads "Our Land." We want to be heard loud and clear, and the more voices that join in the more impact we will have. These clips will be used in the final full-length video to be released later this month.
Please take a minute and shoot and submit to ourland27@gmail.com
Every cent profited from the work will go to the Utah Dine Bikeyah whom we have partnered with in aid of the land grab.
Happy to answer more questions here or privately, and a personal thanks to the countless folks who have stood up and showed us support and solidarity in this project.
Thanks for the read, and hope to see you join in the effort...
Chris
