So the plan is to buy some land in Joshua Tree, erect a house, and spend winters there (6-7 month stays).
One piece of land (far North J Tree)has some hills on it. I could locate a house with NE exposure or with SW exposure. The hills should block some of the wind so placement is critical.
Most of the wind seems to come from the West (say from Pacific systems), but can locals fill me in on general wind patterns and direction? I have spent much time in the park and little time in town.
Thanks in advance
Yes I will be hosting parties once established

WSW 83.2% of the time... a light breeze right now... I better drop another log on the outside fire... and then freshen my bourbon...
But, I've lost shingles on many houses on many aspects. The weather guys call it a "microburst"... I call it a pain in the ass having to go out and weave shingles. No aspect is safe... MWHAHAHAHA!!!!!

We lived high up the hill on the south west end of JTree near the La Contenta Wash and BLM land. The big winds came from the west, hitting my bedroom wall, I would move to the other end of the house, those nights. I loved living there...

Just a thought, you said you want an NE exposure. It can be cold in the winter.
