I feel like I keep having the discussions with people about the safety issues surrounding wearing rings and watches while climbing. Can y'all share some horror (or lack thereof) stories to give me 'ammo' in these discussion?

Thank you for bringing this up. I see people climbing in the gym and outdoors all the time with rings and watches on. I tell them about the dangers of this in that they can get stuck and pull of the skin, called "gloving", but they just give me blank stares. I do work on machinery where we are prohibited from wearing rings and watches for this reason.

Me too...that's why I brought this up.
Seems obvious to me but for some reason some people don't get the risks.

The wife gave me grief for years because I didn't wear my wedding ring, used to wear it on a cord around my neck. She finally left me alone about it. I still don't wear it after I quit rock climbing years ago, too much machinery at work, and I still climb trees on occasion and never liked what the ring did to my skin whenever I hooked it on a branch stub or other hazards.

I do like to hang from my huge ear piercings and swing from limb to limb though...

Jimmy Fallon was just hanging out in his kitchen and almost lost his finger when his ring caught as he fell.

Never had any damage. I just remove the ring and watch before climbing. They get in the way. And as stated, watches can get trashed in cracks.
