Saw a photo of this on a backpacking website. Took a look on Summitpost and MountainProject and there wasn't much there. The rock on Cloud Peak and the surrouning area looks amazing.

In my sales rep years, I drove past the turn-offs for Cloud Peak many a time, but never had the time to venture in there.

Here's a link to a good 2015 AAJ article on the area:

http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/13201213326/Recon-Cloud-Peak

and a nice Climbing Magazine story on climbs there.

The rock on Cloud Peak and the surrounding area looks amazing.

Amazing rock can be found amongst the total choss. The "reporting" of routes is in the Montana theme, as in, they aren't. Or at least until recently that was the case. Finding an old pin or tat is not uncommon.

The long approaches (even by Wind River standards), lack of info, and honestly, the rock isn't that great overall. Certainly not as good as the Winds or Tetons. These factors have kept the Cloud Peak area obscure.

All that being said, plenty of fun to be had there.

More Bighorn goodness:

While guiding for Exum I spent a week there in the early 70’s with a boyscout troop from North Carolina. Was impressed by the potential but never got back.
