SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 0.0 A Guide to SuperTopo Gold
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 1.0 Trip Reports
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 2.0 Threads: Foundational Series
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 2.1 Threads: Individuals
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 2.2 Threads: Areas + Routes
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 2.3 Threads: Climbing Conversation
SUPERTOPO CLIMBING GOLD: 3.0 Single Posts
My hope is that this index of SuperTopo Climbing Gold will collect and organize the highest quality climbing related information, narrative and entertainment on the SuperTopo Climber’s Forum.
As such, the goal is not to catalog every single thread or tr, but rather to mine the best 1-3% [or so] worth of climbing related threads and posts that this forum has to offer. To add your favourite hidden and not so hidden climbing related SuperTopo gems to these index threads, just post the thread, tr, or single post that made a significant impression on you, to any of the six threads and i'll keep [in time :)] compiling and making them clickable on the first post of the applicable threads.
There are only two rules and two instructions:
Rules: 1. no self-authored nominations
..... 2. nominations need to be somewhat climbing related.
Instructions: 1. be specific regarding which threads or posts you deem worthy [ie. i need something more specific than "all of jimmy joe willicker's threads”]
..... 2. ask yourself whether it's just a personal fave or whether it rises to the level of quality that these lists generally rise to, thus far.

i feel i should explain what it is that this post, that i originally just called serial threads and that i'm now calling foundational series, is intended to delineate...
these topics are subjects, authors, thread series, and etc that, in my opinion, have driven major and compelling areas of climbing conversation on this board.
as such this is a completely subjective delineation.
and ultimately while i appreciate people suggesting areas, authors, etc that they think should be added to this section, this is the one place where i'm going to allow the inner small n [azi] to come out... ie. don't take it personally if i organize your suggestion for this particular index into another area.
that said, this is one of the most lacking areas...
to start with there is a Marlow's European Connection and Don Lauria's Lore [or similarly named categories...] that i have ready to add.
someday i also need to add sections for peter haan and ament's conversation generating contributions as well... and i still need to organize many of grossman's threads into their appropriate and main individual/areas + routes/climbing conversation locations...
and i'm sure there are many many other areas and individual conversation starters that i'm missing...
so please suggest as the spirit moves, and i will also compile... as the spirit moves. :)

hahaha... nope.
while it may look like tons of time has gone into this, it was just a bit of reorganization and some new "branding"...
ie. i've only put about 2 hrs of work into these threads in the last 4 months.
basically it's been a couple hours here and a half hour there over the course of the last three years [when i started the first version of this] that has resulted in the above and its sister threads...
and equally as important the first version was based off other people's threads [pate, mike m and Mick K's] and so was just a compiling and organization of those threads...
and since then i've mostly just been a data entry clerk for the likes of RyanD, Hardly Visible, and Tarbuster [along with a host of other less prolific but still appreciated miners]... :)
and so while this ain't no rome...
still rome didn't get built in a day...
it's just been a day sick in bed here and a too tight toque hour there... :)
and ultimately, all of it is only so that i can keep having "discussions" in the politard threads with a slightly less guilty conscience... hahahaha.

ok. this is some admittedly weird timing on this one... but you can't stop inspiration when one is a canuckistanian mickey into a japanese iteration of a scottish single malt...
so while i've started to work on compiling tarbuster's [et als] suggestions to the other threads [thank you kindly kind sir... (and et al "sirs")] and i still need to copy pasta the lists i have already compiled for marlow, Don Lauria and Peter Haan to this thread... still, sometimes there's a time for the asymmetric...
and speaking of the asymmetric: the subject at hand is the trip "reportage" of Steve "Roadie" Seats...
in all honesty, i don't really know where to put these... a bunch of them have already ended up in the single posts threads, in theory they are "trip reports" and there is at least one that breaks the "all climbing, all of the time" rule... but it seems to me if there is to be even one, then he's the kind of guy whose stories deserve a near singular loophole. so until/unless something else makes more sense, my intuition says these stories deserve compiling on this, what to my intent, amounts to the heart of supertopo gold mining country.
thank you mr. seats. long may you tell us your stories:

alright. there's always a way to procrastinate: even when you're procrastinating... ie. i'll continue to compile the suggestions to the couple of threads that i so far haven't made it to... but in the mean time i'm going to post up the long promised peter haan, don lauria, and marlow sections of this, the subjective heart of supertopo as climbing substance, compilation.
thank you gentlemen, for sharing your stories, your wisdom and your conversation starters over the years...

while i said i was done posting round these parts, i have to admit i didn't foresee the forum as a whole, closing up shop as soon as it is now intended to... and so new circumstances call for a tying up of a few outstanding loose ends.
and so while there are still a lot of things missing from these lists, the one that feels like it would be a small bit of sacrilege not to mention, are some long procrastinated additions of a few of pat ament's contributions to this board.
so with the final deadline closing in shortly, it seems fitting, that my likely last addition to these lists is a section i'm calling Oli's Tales:
obscure history [Oli: May 31, 2007]
man with black cape [Oli: Jun 3, 2007]
the Black Canyon with Kor, by Pat Ament [Patrick Oliver: Apr. 26, 2013]
Kor and Pratt, the tall and the short of it... by Pat Ament [Patrick Oliver: Apr. 30, 2013]
Those strange turns of youth... [Patrick Oliver: Jul. 8, 2013]
thanks for all of the tales folks... it was a great ride.

My computer has crashed, I get a " No Bootable Device " screen when I hit the power button.
This has me separated from my book marked threads. There were 4 or 5 that may have been only 50 posts or less in length that are were remarkable.
I do remember that when James Lucas fell while soloing in JTree the responses were
a good example of the best of this no-place.
I still hope to

Ghost: i'd appreciate if you fired an email to nah000 at that hotmail dot com place, so i have your contact info... because ultimately i'd like to take you up on it, even if i don't know if/when i'll end up in those parts... and my offer for a tour of the ghost [or somewhere else in the bow valley for that matter] still stands as well.
Gary: that big rock thread is already on the 2.2 B. page under routes and areas... another good one for sure...

we'll see... but my understanding of the party line, is that while still linkable, photos will disappear from threads, but that trip reports will continue on both with the same links and intact.
regardless, probably best to save anything to your own devices, that one thinks is worth saving, just in case.
