Long story short, I'm making the trek overland from Wolverton to Crabtree in Sequoia, and with spectacular mountains in between, I'd rather go up and over than take the trail and go around. I have a little beta on Black Kaweah, but I'm not sure about going up and over. West Ridge sounds like an easy day out, but is there an easy descent to get down to the east side of the mountain?

Other than Black Kaweah, any other routes to consider for going over the range?

You want to tag summits or are you just trying to pass through the Kaweahs and Kaweah basin?

Do some research on the Kaweah traverse climbs do get a better feel for the terrain. I scrambled up Black Kaweah ages ago, but never traversed that sub-range. Would love to head back in there when my life is less busy.

There's a col you can go over without a rope but on my iPhoney in Zurich I'm not inclined
to suss out which one it is. If yer at Kaweah Pass it's to yer left (looking at the Kaweahs).

Pyra-queen col is the notch on the north side of black Kaweah that gets you into the basin. Didn't seem technical or sketchy, just some loose scree at the top and then tiring boulder hopping all the way down to the lakes.

I thought about summiting black Kaweah but I was alone and that rocks looked as bad as they say. With kids at home I err on the side of sissy but that would be a great mountain to get on top of!

You won't be disappointed with the scenery anywhere is that part of the mountains!

Yeah, the rock in the Kaweahs is pretty poor. I knew someone who was killed on Black Kaweah.

Are you guys talking about Pants Pass for the easy route across the ridge? That's my bail out plan if I get up there and the rock looks too loose and I chicken out.

I'd like to tag at least one summit (optional, really I'm mostly out there to visit a friend at Crabtree), Black Kaweah seemed the obvious choice but I'm not so sure about the ridge on the other side.
