I'm going on a trip to the mountains soon that will focus on ice climbing - trying to figure out the glove I want to take. Want some warmth. Definitely want a good grip and a high level of feel/touch (wonder what kind of responses that might encourage!).

Mostly seracing and playing around on the ice. May do a gully or two to 14,000 ft with an alpine start.

Have used plain leather gloves and mechanics gloves in the past. Wondering if you have a particularly sweet set-up. What glove would you take? What's your favorite?

Golf gloves when its warm enough. OR stormtrackers when its a bit colder. Punishers when its getting more like winter.

Second that ^, taking care of your gloves, keeping them warm, snow free etc. matters more than the glove really.
A good dose of leather wax goes a long way. Wet gloves can be colder than no gloves. Its often easier to just dry bare hands than mess about.

Im obsessive about my gloves, and have well treated pairs with hundreds of days use that only get better with wear.

Sounds odd, but highly recommend you look into Carhartt Hex gloves. Just enough warmth and wind resistance when you're moving, long cuff, VERY sensitive and palm material has great grip on rock and tools/pro. I swap out several sets when I'm working in damp conditions; they dry quickly when stashed under your base layer.

Have also used generic Mechanix or similar gloves and usually take well-broken-in Marmot Basic Work gloves for grunt work, slower slogging.

OR Stormtracker gloves are pretty perfect for summer. If they fit your hand.

Thanks for the tips everybody.

Couldn't find the Carhartt Hex gloves around - will keep my eyes open for them.

Those OR Stormtrackers look like they fit well and have a sleek profile. Seem like they'd be a great setup for a little colder weather.

Ended up with Kobalt work gloves - $20 at Lowes. Snug fit and super grippy. Looks like they'll climb alpine rock well and be warm. Look forward to trying em out.

You will wreck those if you rappel wearing them!

When all I want is grip, even when wet, I much prefer nitrile coated palm garden gloves. I like these particular ones because they have velcro wrist closures.
