I've got about 130 pairs of Boreal climbing shoes that were originally used in our outdoor program. Sizes range from US 3-13, and there are an additional 15 pairs that need repairs (mostly resoling).

They've been around for a good while, and are probably best suited to a climbing program that is less technical, and more experiential (i.e. summer camp, school groups, etc.).

I figure $3-$4 bucks a pair is probably fair, but I don't want to sell them individually- looking to sell the whole shebang. This said, I'm negotiable.

It would be best if you were in the So Cal area, or not too far outside of it to avoid complicated shipping costs. Reply via the ST email system if you are interested, and we'll work it out.

Are those Fires? Sure looks like it. If there is anything equal to a mens size 8.5 or 9 I could be in if you are parting them out.

That must have been an impressive program you were involved with. I'd love to hear details.

I'm also glad to see someone still using old-fashioned Fires. I had Barry resole mine with C4 and they work great for off-widths and most crack climbing generally, and the uppers remain indestructable.

Locker, I actually already did that, contacting a few JT-oriented guide services- they weren't interested.

I'd really much prefer to sell them together, and not separate them- they will be much more useful to a program that needs a wide range of shoes. I've got at least one person interested in the whole lot, but will give it a bit more time to optimize 'bidding'....

If that doesn't work out, and they sit around too long, I'll probably have to resort to separating them. I'm going to try to avoid that, though.

Here's the size breakdown:

Well, at least one person has already contacted me with interest in all of them.

I dunno, Locker...it's kind of a pita knocking on the doors of a bunch of guide services with these wares...tried it a few times, got turned down, then decided to shift strategies.

Wouldn't be surprised, though, if some of the shoes that needed repair wound up in your shop...

You might try contacting GirlVentures in San Francisco. They're a 501c3 and do great outdoor programs for girls in SF, including climbing. They may be able to make a purchase. They can be reached at: 415.864.0780

Apogee, my ST PM fxn is typically no-joy, but pending a better offer, if you know of a non-prof (like marty(r)'s link above) local-ish to you that shows interest in these, let me know and I'd be willing to reimburse you somewhere close to your asking $.

Let me know at gperswig at gmail.

edit: Ap, sorry; I remember when you were dealing with that (never fun...) but never got your email, figured you had found what you needed to know. The above is current, old was an aol acct. Barring other interest, I'll pony up if you don't mind the legwork finding a suitable charity/group.

Dale-

I tried emailing you (in response to your offer to assist) about a year ago regarding my pup's insulinoma...didn't get a reply...has your email addy changed since then?

BTW...that's a very generous offer on your part. I'd love to simply donate these shoes to a worthy 501.c3, but there are extenuating circumstances here where I need to recover some $$ for these shoes.

You might try one of the Outdoor programs at one of the local colleges. Maybe something like UCR.

Love Fieres, better than some approach shoes, super for scrambling 4th class.
How can you beat $4?!

If not, maybe start a shoe tree somewhere.

DMT, I wish I was in a better place to donate them outright, but such is not the case. Dale's offer (if I read it correctly) was to actually pay for the shoes himself, if they are donated to a suitable 501c.3

That is an incredibly generous offer, and I'm looking into finding a local-ish non-profit that might use them. Though I have to obtain some $$ for them, perhaps the ridiculously low price of $4/pair can be considered my 'donation' to the cause.

I'd prefer to find a program based in So Cal, to avoid shipping headaches- there are a LOT of them, and it would be very expensive to ship them anywhere.

I certainly get the need to recoup some dough, but would like to second the Gateway/PeterMayfield/Maysho suggestion. Perhaps he could cobble together a small grant to cover your costs (or between him and Dale, anyway).

I'm going to ping him now to make sure he's aware of this thread...

Yep, I'm on board - you find a worthy group and I'll cover you. Others more than welcome to pitch in if that's the direction you go.

Of course, as said you might be reimbursed better by selling individually, if you've got the time.

No, I really don't want to sell them that way. Takes forever, too much shipping headaches, and will invariably result in some odds & ends leftovers.

They are going to be far more useful to some program who needs to put shoes on groups of people.

I'm willing to take a hit on them if they go all at the same time...if that means a worthy non-profit, all the better.

Thank You all so much for thinking of Gateway Mountain Center!

We are pretty set with shoes. We have about 75 pair, purchased in the last two years, mostly 5.10, velcro. If it were 25 pair, I might be tempted, filling in some sizes that can always use more. But 128 pair would just put me in the same position as the current owner, trying to store them, trying to give them away to other organizations, dealing with shipping etc.

If I hear of other org.s that might need them I will let you know. Very nice of Dale and John to offer to sponsor those shoes going to a good home!

It's the shipping that's the issue, John. There are 9 large tupperware totes of them, and the most reasonable way to deal with them is going to be to drive them somewhere. (I don't mind doing that within a couple hours of So Cal.)

Glad to hear you are set for shoes, Peter. If you (or anyone else) think of a program in this corner of the country that's interested, send 'em my way. (I've put a few feelers out today.)
