"... The 20-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, fell 60 feet to his death from California’s popular Sunset Cliffs at about 5 p.m. on Friday, Fox 5 reports. He appeared to be staring into either a cell phone or a camera while walking around before the fatal fall, the news outlet said..."

It's amazing how carelessly I see people wandering round with their heads down, oblivious to the world around them. I almost run into to people all the time at work who aren't watching where their going, or who's coming at them.

No kidding.
In the summer, I often take the long way home from work on my bike. It's a great ride, but the one drawback is the first mile, on a street that's fully gridlocked at that time of day.
So I ride on the sidewalk (legal in Seattle), but it's still slow, because half the people walking have their heads down and their eyes glued to their phones.
A couple of times when I've seen one of these phone zombies approaching, I've tried an experiment: I stop my bike, and stand there, waiting to see how close the zombie will get before it notices that it's about to walk into a stationary object.
Usually, they'd just keep walking right into the front wheel if I didn't speak up.

I know Sunset cliffs well- This is the first I've heard of a death by cell phone, however; many stoners and drunks around my age have fallen off those cliffs, which I guess could be an indictment of my generation, if your into generalizations.

In some places it must be a law - all pedestrians 35 or under are required to be staring at an electronic device.

I'm waiting for the first creative lawyer to come up with a way to sue Apple or Samsung for creating an "attractive nuisance" that contributes to the negligent deaths of these boneheads.
(Disclaimer - no irony is implied or intended in the above statement)
