I would imagine that some if not many (all?) of you have heard about this, it's new to me though and I checked to see if there was alway a thread.

Sort of cool.

It's been around a while. I've never tried it or actually seen it in person.

I've seen that tunnel before. Pretty sure it's Newport Beach.

The first half dozen times I saw videos of that device I was sure it was photo shopped. ha But maybe they really exist. And maybe the young kids will all get into this new pastime and leave the waves for old school old men. :)

^Hopefully this device and sexting will return the waves to their rightful owners.

Great Clark Little photo, I doubt that's Cali, my guess is the 7 miles of magic on Oahu north shore.

Too bad more climbers don't experience dropping in on a wave and getting barreled. The only thing that comes close is free soloing a long moderate route. Still harnessing natures energy is about as good as it gets.....

Aloha and be well

I know folks, it is not surfing, I took the thread head from the website I got the video from. It does look cool and fun, though I wouldn't do it.

The last time I surfed was in 1975, Santa Cruz/Monterey, I was never a great surfer, by far, but I did it on a semi-regular basis mostly in high school. Climbing and the mountains always drew my attention first.

I figured some "die hard" surfers would have comments, but come on, it's better than a political or religious thread.

EDIT
So drljefe (↓↓↓, 8:48 November 7), if it is barely better than a political thread, and I seemed to have irked some real surfers who do not use machine power, shall I nuke the thread? I don't like nuking threads, the few times I have done it, when the threads had other people's comments, time they took to write, I feel like I am cheating them.

But clearly, this thread is a waste of space on the forum. Not unlike some other threads. But it is a virtual campfire, so...

And yes it does look like a rich boys' sports, or at least a first world one, or a "sport" that people who live in poverty could not afford, unlike football/soccer. A ball some, friends, some place to kick it around (street, playground, field), and voila… fun, exercise, camaraderie.

Condolences to the family and friends of the surfers zBrown mentioned below.

Better than a political thread?
Barely :-)
The surfers HAVE spoken, Patrick.
The music alone sends it far into the kook zone.

For a gimmicky flatwater surfing experience
this thing looks like more fun.
At least you can carve a 200ft bottom turn.

But when it's flat surfers usually have a bunch of shˇt to do that they've been putting off to surf real waves in the ocean, like work.

This thread is worth it for the shot of contractor's son alone.

I've seen the Contractor's tunnel before. Pretty sure it's on the North Shore of Swami's.

BTW two died there last week. One was a heart attack and the other was unknown cause, but death from drowning.

Joy Froding (57) & Kenneth Mann (61).

RIP Joy and Kenneth. They were actually surfing. No machines.
