I've always wondered about this area north west of Sacramento in the coast range. I really notice it in winter when we have low elevation snow, it gets covered and you can see the wilderness area across the Sacramento River Valley from the Western Slope.

I'm sure there are some here who know its ground which has just been named a National Monument, I'd appreciate a perspective. Any rock?

Congrats to longtime climber Bob Schneider, who worked hard to make this designation happen! Bob, (older brother to Steve - Shipoopi) serves as senior policy adviser to the organization Tuleyome, http://www.tuleyome.org/ which has been the lead advocacy group, and on the ground trail builder and public outreach champion, to get this land protected and appreciated. I am psyched to get out there and get on those trails!

Its nice to have these designations- but the federal gov seems to forget that after the photo ops- these places need $$$$ to run
