Not sure I'm gonna subject myself to that vid, especially as I need no convincing on the
subject. I've climbed with lots of nationalities and them Rooskies do enjoy a nice bowl of
nails for breakfast.

When one was taught that their grandfathers covered the Nazi machine guns with their bodies to prevent them from killing more Soviet soldiers, it could lead to some ability to harden the f*#k up at times. Even though there are plenty of cowards and sissies in Russia as well.

The "anesthesia" was the ice he applied - it can numb you up pretty well.
Funny that he sterilizes the knife and then digs out the hematoma with his fingers...
I'd bet he has medical training too - not many people have sutures in their kit.
In the U.S., only PAs, NAs, and MDs are trained to certify. However, medics in the military are also taught to suture.
Steristrips and superglue work well as sutures in the wilderness. An MD showed me when I volunteered as an ALS EMT.

I wish hernia was as simple to deal with!
It sure was pleasant to see the healthy flow of RED BLOOD so quickly.
Bears are indeed way tough, and I'm thinking of Anatoli Boukreev (RIP) as one of the toughest.
