Listen Up!
~50 minute interview.

Peter Haan is a key figure in Yosemite climbing history, the missing link if you will, between the Golden age guys who specialized in free climbing (Pratt/Sacherer/Kamps) and the Stonemasters.
He was mentored by Royal Robbins and in turn, influenced John Bachar. His peers were free climbing aces Barry Bates, Mark Klemens, and Chris Vandiver. Peter climbed extensively with Bridwell and also did the first solo ascent of the Salathe Wall. In 1971 Haan freed the Left Side of the Hourglass, which Bates & Wunsch revered as an eminent climb of its time.
Cheers,
Roy

Really enjoyed hearing Peter muse about the magic and beauty of climbing - both doing it and being in amazing places. Gave a real feel for the time; late 60s to mid 70s in Yosemite.
Saw him climb once in the Valley around '75; he moved like a lion and really nice guy to be around. Couldn't get up the off-width on Pharoahs Beard and he dropped a rope and coached me up. Feel really lucky to have gotten a lesson in off-width climbing from Peter Haan!

Stay tuned folks!
Ricky Accomazzo is in the queue and gives his interview tonight!
Kudos to Peter Haan: he has the intellectual/philosophical background to show just exactly where our hearts really are with this whole climbing thing.

It was good of you to post this, Tarbuster.
The "Roy" of whom they speak at 6:00, is that you?
Dear, dear Peter, I love the way you speak of the white granite we all love.

Thanks for the tip TarMan, enjoyed Peter's take on current affairs and keeping things in perspective in relation to the past. Wise words, but expected from such a cerebral and thoughtful man.
Look forward to Rick's interview tonight.
