Just out of curiosity, is Tommy related to Dean Caldwell, who you all know, put up the Wall of Early Morning Light with Harding?

And I am perplexed, why no snow on the ground? Last time I was there, December 2008, when I took Jennie there, to California to meet friends and family, the was snow.

Is the winter now the climbing season?

One of my late brother's closest friends, Best Man at wedding, and next door neighbor (and brother in life to me), Jay, he said he went to high school with Mike Caldwell, I guess who is Tommy's father.

At least there was snow there when Jen and I visited from Ireland.

I had this conversation with someone recently, and the conclusion we came to, with the help of the internet, was a no. He is a different Caldwell I believe.

I personally think that Yo Valley is most beautiful when draped in snow.

I have a theory. Over the decades climbers have scoured the
lichens off Yosemite Valleys cliffs, brightening them so they reflect more
winter sunlight and melt any snow on the valley floor faster.

And thousands of Caldwells in the world. Possible all related to
a bronze age Saxon family with a cold well in northern Lancaster County?

Etymology dictionary says Celtic from the world Keld= wood

So, Well in the Woods.

Aternatively, from the Norse Kjell, or Keld. Same root as Kettle, cauldron or Helm(et).

But if that's the root I'm not sure how one got down a well

Saxon has lots of angles on his rack.

No snow? Yer shittin' me!

Actually, the place is even MORE beautiful when it's smothered in snow, not just draped in it. Then you get to see lots more falling chunks of ice.

And Warren Harding wasn't a relative of the late POTUS, Patrick, but you probably know that.

Gamaliel is a Hebrew name meaning REWARD of God.

Tommy Caldwell is not related to Dean Caldwell though Tommy's father, Mike, is a very good climber who pioneered a lot of hard first ascents in the Estes Park Valley in the 70's and 80's. I think he still climbs hard.

Joe,
Mike Caldwell is Tommy's father.
(Unless you know something about paternity that we don't.) :-)

I think for some people, it only has to be said once, then they can refer to that single instance as an established fact! :-)

Somebody at Climbing magazine apparently tracked down Dean Caldwell for a quote:
"I admire these guys!" said Dean. "I see little similarity between the Yosemite climbing of today and that of the '60s, but the spirit is the same. They're doing it. It is a moving thing to see."
