We are sadly selling our incredible custom 4wd camper van. The perfect van for long road trips, optimized for comfort for 2 people and storage, we'd be keeping it if we didn't now need space to sleep 3.
Perfect as a baja surf, desert climbing, or general exploration van. Unlike the standard sportsmobile or vanagon layouts, this is designed to maximize storage and ease of travel for 1-2 people, and is made with higher quality materials. Pull over wherever you are to sleep, with the bed already made up. Go wherever you need to go with the 4wd, and still park in a regular parking space. The solar panel runs all the internal electricity (fridge, lights), without any need for a generator and you can be completely self contained. You can do it all in this beloved van!
We are sadly selling this awesome van because we now are a family of 3, and will need more sleeping space as the baby grows. It has been well used, but is in good working shape. Very functional!
Asking $40,000 OBO. Check out the sportsmobile.com website for comparable vehicles -- this is a steal!

Looks like an interesting opportunity for someone who wants instant gratification of a rad adventure-mobile. Something like this is on my radar, but would have to be more optimized for 4-6 people.
Bump finding the right new owner.

mike m,
Did you click on the craigslist link and thumbnails? Over 20 pics there.

I know the sellers, who are great folks. They built a top-notch van with all the right stuff.
Advanced Four Wheel Drive Systems does an excellent 4x4 conversion. The locking differential added to the rear axle makes the van seriously capable in low traction situations. The 300+ hp V-10 makes strong power for the 1-ton chassis.
ilona,
Congratulations on the recent addition to your family!

Thanks Juan!
Yes everyone, more pictures available here: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/rvs/4696598668.html
If you want specific pictures not available at that link, let me know.
We lived on the road in this van for a year from 2011-2012. It will take you everywhere you want to go, in comfort.

What's up Juan M. and Jaybro!!!
This is going to be the perfect van for someone.
It's a log cabin on wheels. Quit yer job, buy a van, and go climb splitters with your sweetie (if they are red camalot or smaller, it's better if she leads).

Nice! I love the shots of Madonna and child. Congrats! Not a bad deal, really. $40K is rich for a lot of the dirt bag climbers on this site, however. Best of luck on the sale.

Looks like a sweet ride. Just curious, what kind of mileage do you get with that V-10??

11-12 MPG with the 4WD and high top conversion.

A pile of dirt.

11-12 sounds right. I've got one (4x4 Econoline) with the Triton V-8 and get 13-16 depending on how much I'm on the pedal. No high top but large lift and 4x4 - aka the mileage killer.

Seems like you could throw a crib in over the couch pretty easily?
Come on! Surely you could make it work for 3!
Sweet build by the way.

Great looking van. You of course know your needs better than us, but I agree with Mucci- that van looks perfect for a small family. When our kids aged up and we needed more room, we started bringing a tent.
Considering how unique and awesome that van is, you might want to keep it for a few more years!

Appreciate the comments and advice to keep it, and believe me we will make it work until we find the right new owner.
It will be a sad day to see it go, but hopefully a new owner will appreciate it as much as we have.
