Why, you going into the oil business there? The place is sorta the pits
according to my friend who was the Finnish Sub-Ambassador for two years
he'd like to forget. He's in Bruges now and MUCH happier.

A friend has spent some time working over there on 2 separate occasions, commuting from Colorado Springs. Had his own telecommunications business working in the oil patch.
The first time, in the mid 90's, he came back with his second wife, an Azeri. Shortly after she moved her daughter and mother into his house, the divorce proceedings began.
The second time, in the early aughts, he just rented a house and went through 2 or 3 girlfriends. When returning the second time, he had his 19 year old daughter fly to Baku and they drove his restored Russian Vega car through Georgia, the Black Sea coast of Turkey, to Istanbul, Athens, Rome etc. Trip of a lifetime for his daughter.
Don't know of any climbing near Baku. Are you going for work, play or both?

PS: That friend of mine now lives in Portland, Or.

I was there last year for a week as a guest of the government to cover the Tour of Azerbaijan bicycle race. Message me your contact info and I will give you a call.

BTW, though I didn't partake, the world's largest Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC) is supposedly in Baku. Also, make sure they put you up in the Hilton. It is off the charts!

Well, that makes more sense. Some other friends were just there. They've been damn near
everywhere so they're getting desperate. I would suggest Tbilisi and Yerevan over Baku,
they have nice mountains nearby. Batumi is nice, too. Van, Turkey isn't far from Yerevan and
it's nice, too. If you want excitement there's always Vladikavkaz or Grozny nearby.

I just got your email, hadn't checked my commercial email for a week. So I copied my buddies email on my reply, then sent him an email on my personal account and copied the email address you sent to me. Let me know if you didn't receive it.
