Hey Supertopo,

I'm starting to put together an itinerary for a meandering month-ish road trip as I head to the east coast this summer for grad school. The general idea is to make my way north from the bay area towards BC, then shuffling over towards Banff, down towards glacier and hopefully paying a visit to the Winds and Tetons in Wyoming before continuing east. I climb mostly trad, enjoy open spaces, and have a cool dog who likes to tag along where possible (national parks are tricky with dogs).

Where would Supertopo go? Suggestions for destinations and pit-stops are welcome!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The dog can't belay yet, but I'm not convinced she can't be utilized in some counterweight capacity...

Right now I have an fun line up potential of waypoints/destinations lined up. Bend,OR , Mt. Ranier area, Squamish, Bugaboos, Banff, Glacier, Tetons, and the Winds. Hopefully squeeze in some Montana fly fishing. I'll post a trip report of my adventures.

I though that road trips weren't supposed to have itineraries?

I though road trips just meant get in the car and go, with your whim as your road map.

While you're on the Glacier to the Winds leg, detour off of I-90 South down I-15 for 20 minutes and take in the Humbug Spires--one of Montana's oldest area fitting the "trad" bill, it has plenty of solitude and Moose Creek running through it. Across the interstate from it is the Big Hole river, large enough for big trout and small enough to wade fish :-)

Enjoy your travels though the Big Sky country!

havent climbed out of california too much so cant help with that info but...

one of my buddys told me that they had there dog registerd as a emotional support dog or something for $75 and he can bring his dog anywhere in a natl park and in buildings and such, of course he doesn't need emotional support but it is very easy to fake it i am told.... something to look into as I too have a dog that loves to climb/hike!!!!!!!
looks easy from here

If I were going through Wyoming I'd hit Devil's Tower for sure.
