I may be wrong on this. My understanding was that Bill Fuehrer was affectionately given the nickname "the Dolt" by climbing friends for his propensity of forgetting essential items to take on a big climb. (I heard this from Warren Harding talking to my father maybe fifteen years ago (?).)
