I turned on the news just in time to hear "We'll be right back with more breaking news of these massive explosions bringing down two buildings in NY City."
For one second my stomach dropped. My son just arrived in NYC to visit friends yesterday.
The rational mind says, it's a huge place, he's fine.
The father mind was gripped for a moment.
Sounds like it's a massive gas explosion in Harlem, 16 injuries and one fatality so far. One building down.
Damn.....
Edit: My son responded right away. He's fine. That one pang of fear was enough though. Gives you a sense of what people go through when they know it's their parents neighborhood, or their kids flight. Gulp.

Until about 2 yrs ago my son lived about a block from where that was. I was so happy when he moved out of there to Brooklyn. His apt. door was kicked in and they were robbed several times, someone pulled a knife on his roomate and beat him up in the building entrance, right in front of the security guard, who did nothing. I know, Brooklyn (Crown Heights), but it makes me feel better than E. Harlem.

Big fire in SF yesterday too. Could see it from quite a distance.
