I broke my small toe a couple of years ago, and I have some residual swelling due to some arthritis/bursitis in the toe, which has caused a corn like feature to form on the outside edge of the toe causing quite an issue with my climbing shoes. I have seen a podiatrist who offered up some nice padding options, and there is surgery to remove some bone to reduce the size of the toe, but in the meantime has anyone ever altered their climbing shoe by cutting a hole in the shoe, I'm getting desperate spring is around the corner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Using a razor or exacto knife, gently scribe a cut around the pressure area in the rand. Slowly work your way down to the leather/material of the upper. Heat that area up and peel off the rand. Climb in them a bit and after it has stretched out, smear some Freesole over the area to act as the new rand and protect that pinky.

hey there say, Tony... wow, neat info, there... :)

and say, jopay... praying and hoping things do well for your toe... say, you may already know that callie may have 'vast wisdom' as to foot surgery to offer you... she had quite a share, here, on the taco, as to the helping of her feet (not just a toe) ...

hope the shoe trick turns out well, as per instructions...

Have the doc remove it. It'll heal fast and you'll never have to worry about it again.

Tony I was actually thinking of calling you about the problem, being that you did such a good job on my last re-sole. I just knew that you would have encountered this problem before. There might be some ouch moments until the leather eases a bit, but good suggestion and appreciated.

Been climbing with my "altered" Sportiva Solutions, that Tony at Rubber Room altered for me, and are working out great. Just a shout out for an innovative fix for my toe problem, and a great resole as well.

get a shoe stretcher at target. it is a foot-shapped wood block you put in your shoe, it comes with toe-shaped bumps which can be attached like mister potato head features to stretch a lump into your shoe
