Today is the 7th anniversary of the Lafaille's death on Makalu...

He disappeared on his summit bid... He left his tent at 25,000 feet during an alpine style push to the summit and was never seen or heard from again...

Its a shame he was such a talented all around climber...

The Guardian at the time did a fitting obituary for the man...

He went up alone I take it?

Sorry for the loss of a mountain brother, always.

No doubt one of the most talented climbers and alpinists the world has ever seen...

Has it been that long already? Geez. One of the best, a real mountaineer. Not a lot like that.

It goes to show that alpinism is a far more dangerous game than rock climbing, and high altitude alpinism is wicked dangerous.

Even the best die.

I wonder how his wife Katia and his son Tom are doing?

Donini, (no rudeness intended) did you know the family personally? I hear they were a real "alpine climbing team"... She handled the logistics, he did the climbing, etc....

Apparently in 2009 Katia climbed Aconcagua...

Obscure fact... Jean Lafaille bolted the line that would go on to become Realization/Biographie in Céüse, France in 1989...

Yes I knew them personally, do you suppose I would have made the post if I didn't? I'm anything but a name dropper.

Sorry Donini, No disrespect intended.... The way you phrased the statement left room for speculation, i just needed clarification....
