I'm just a humble renter of apartments etc, so I gotta be careful installing anything for training. I made a very basic triangular frame with holds in the 80s where I was living. Now having recently moved, I'd like to build something again. I googled a few examples here, but would welcome any ideas otherwise. Thanks.

I used oatmeal once. So, like a stud finder might be a good investment huh.

There's a good thread on mountainproject called "What does your woody look like" with many pictures and some freestanding examples.
nice small one about 2/3 of the way down page 11: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/what-does-your-woody-look-like/106606591
and a clever small one that fits in a doorway on page 5.
edit: Supertopo mangled the link to page 11 that had underscores in the URL, so I edited it to go to page 1 of the MP thread

I just put this in my rental. Five 1/4 inch lag bolts are the only things attached to the ceiling and they will be easy to patch. Well I hope they will be for the sake of my security deposit. The bottom rests on the ground.
The 2" hand crack in the middle has been really nice, just a couple 2x10s running parallel.
If you're in CA I think the code for stud spacing is 16" on the walls and 24" on the ceiling. If that's right (no guarantees) then you just need to find one and measure it out.
Maybe build a removable Bachar Ladder in a hallway or something too?
Edit: The one in your second picture looks just as good as mine with no hole necessary. Wouldn't have worked for me though, I still need to park my car.
