Little history on whiskey bill, so back in 1997 brad and i were going on a southern yosemite road trip and fresno dome was going to be our first stop, brad and i had a deal there we would trade off driving, so this time it was big brad's turn to drive, so when he picked me up in beautiful down town la honda and we were leaving la honda brad saw this drunk with a tent hanging out in front of apple jack's the town bar, it was 4 in the morning, brad asked, "who's that dude in front of a.j.'s?" i answer," that's bill markey or better known has whiskey bill" brad asked "what's up with the tent?" my answer "he is slepping in it and is staying in front of a.j.'s because he is protesting against the owner because he was 86's from the bar" brad laughed!,3 hours later we were at the fresno dome trailhead, we hiked to the base on the south face of fresno dome and brad though where whiskey bill is now would be a great spot for a new route, as we were climbing up putting up the route, ground up!!! brad said " dude i got the perfect name for this route, whiskey bill", that is how whiskey bill got it's name, a little side story to the hangers on whiskey bill, a couple months before brad and i went on our southern yosemite road trip, mid-penisula open space yanked a bunch of the bolts on routes we put up in devil's canyon, but instead of keeping the hangers they have them back to us, so we used some of them on whiskey bill, so youall can thank mid-pen open space for the hard wear on whiskey bill, ok, with all that been said, lots of talk going around on what is the best 5.7 in the shuteye area/ southern yosemite, no it's not afternoon nap :-(, but i think the best 5.7 in the area is!!! drum roll please, whiskey bill!!!, if you have not climbed it, check it out, happy climbing mike a.
