The tahoe area does infact have numerous boulder problems of the highest quality. The new bouldering guide accurately points out almost all of the classic lines in the area worth visiting. In addition to the classics, the guide has listed numerous problems/lines of the poorest quality. Having lived in Tahoe for sometime now, I have become well aquainted with the areas and the rock quality. I was shocked at the number of problems listed at certain areas! In other words alot of the problems are total choss with crumbling holds. The 1400 problems listed in the guide could easily!!! be rounded down to around 600-700. Unfortunately the absence of a star rating system for the guide lumps the 0 or 1 star problems with those of 5 star quality. It seems only fair for someone living in the area to inform others of the accuracy of the guide.
Thanks Much
Happy bouldering,

I've enjoyed the new guide so far.

You can never please everyone can you? Some of the ST guides have been criticized for only including accepted classics and not giving people the chance to explore and decide for themselves what routes are worthy. Opt to include more and others will complain that you've inlcuded too many routes/problems of questionable quality.

Personally I'd rather have more to choose from, even if it means I might come accross some poor problems from time to time. You're wound too tight if a chossy boulder problem is going to ruin your day.

It seems like it's more a matter of personal opinion than a question of accuracy. IMHO

btw. I would have like to have seen star ratings but I can see how it would have been a daunting and perhaps pointless task to pass judgment on that many problems.

I bought the guide and love it.
You gotta take the choss with the class!
Part of the fun is figuring out which is which...
It's enriched my after-work sessions, for sure.

So this is up on the Kingsbury Grade i think...anyone recognize this traverse?

Haven't checked out the guide yet, but I haven't been back to Tahoe in awhile...I miss that place...cheap drinks at the slide...

kevin and i debated whether to have stars or not. ultimately, we decided not to because so many problems were either new, or new to us. we didn't have a lot of other people to debate star ratings with and get consensus. by the second edition, I think we will use stars. hopefully add in a lot more classic problems and end up removing some of the less classic.

any feedback for what problems should be omitted in the next edition would be greatly appreciated. also, if you want to propose star grades for certain climbs email me or post the into in the route beta forum

all feedback is greatly appreciated and helps us make better books in the future.

Tom - that traverse is not in the Kingsbury area - it's at Echo View Estates. It's good - and so are the three or four highesh problems that go up thru it!

As I said, Chris, I really like the guidebook. You guys did an amazing job. And part of the fun is to check out boulder problems and find out for yourself if it's classic or not!

Besides, as you told me in Steamer's, Tahoe has a lot of bouldering - just not a lot of concentrations of bouldering. No one is going out of there way to find one boulder problem with no others nearby - so classic vs classic is not a huge issue - they can just go on to another problem in the concentration!

Thanks for the great work!
