The signeage up on Tioga Pass Road says it will close tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 8 in anticipation of a storm that will bring snow down to 6,000 ft level.

It's so stupid they close it now in anticipation of a storm, not as a reaction to it. There is some other agenda to closing the road than public safety.
Why is it that at Kirkwood for example, they leave Carson pass open for as long as possible, plowing the roads tirelessly, even stationing highway patrol on the road to enforce chain regulations, but still allowing cars to drive through in some seriously snowy and wild conditions, but in the national park.... Ooooh no must close the road hours before the first drops hit the pavement to "protect" motorists.

Pretty sure NPS road crews- mostly furloughed- are responsible for plowing 120 from Hodgdon entrance to Tioga. Coupled with a storm forecasted to arrive overnight, seems like a wise decision based on interests of public safety.

It's a long drop from tioga to the power plant road below and i suppose the boulders falling from above tioga cold have something to do with closing it...?
