Well actually I am neutral about Pete Wilson. But somebody sure felt that way at one time.
A few days ago I was driving south from Lone Pine enroute to LA. Between Lone Pine and Olancha I passed a large storage tank of some sort that is on the northbound side of the road, overlooking Owens Lake. Currently this tank is painted a dark red or brown color.
But back in the 1980's, when I was growing up in Orange County, that tank was white. And on every one of my numerous trips to Mammoth and the eastern Sierra for skiing or backpacking with my dad, we laughed because the tank was spray painted "PETE WILSON SUCKS" in huge black letters. What was funny was that it would get painted over with fresh white paint, but then a month later on the next trip it would be back again..."PETE WILSON SUCKS!"
This was long before Wilson was gov, he was the mayor of San Diego at that time.
Just wondering if anyone else out there remembers this classic graffiti.

Reilly...not sure but after Filner's hand on the buttocks scandal , Hooters banned Filner from their fine dining establishment with a " stove calling the kettle black " PR statement saying that they respect their women....Doh..!

Re. East Side "art": Does anyone know what happened to that very cool mural on the big tank just south of Lone Pine, perhaps the same tank the OP is referring to? I loved the depiction of Whitney, the Inyo's, just great art, IMHO. Did somebody buy it? You can still see the brackets that were welded on to the tank to hold the panels.
