Does anyone read The Surfer's Journal, particularly the most recent issue? Very interesting article about quitting surfing.
Can't link this article Surf No More, Forever in the Surfer's Journal without a subscription. However, if you have the chance to read it, I find it quite analogous and applicable to the life of climbing. It certainly rang some bells with me. Guess I'm just getting old.

“We want to believe that quitting surfing does not happen,” Brad Melekian writes. “This is because, as surfers, we’ve all committed ourselves to the idea that surfing is about commitment.” Why do people quit surfing? Who actually quits? And what are the conditions of surrender? Consider “The End.”

Sorry, the article is only in the print edition or to subscribers in the online edition.
I was just wondering if anyone else reads The Surfer's Journal or has the opportunity to do so. I thought this was a pretty interesting article the parallels the climbing life experience.

it has to evolve. as you get older it has to take on new forms to rediscover the original
passion. weather thats shaping boards or building a house inspired by surf/mountains
location or sailing off to discover new shores. I feel so blessed to have these two passions
that guide my life but like gerry lopez said surf is where you find it. so it could morph into
building furniture or landscaping but I believe surfers and climbers will always look out at the
landscape and see the pure lines of natures playground. Not to ramble on to much but...
apprenticeship is a great part of mariner pursuits and life in the mountains. I look forward
to surfing and climbing with my son Tasman and Petch's daughter Rocky for at least 40 years.
Becky and Felipe Pollmar are my heros.

Ha! Yes, I read it. I too was thinking that you could easily replace surfing with climbing throughout the article. Probably a hard sell here, which is why it was a good article.
"Nobody quits surfing".
