That those were all done with the wet plate colloidal process on glass and survived all the way back to the east coast makes it an even more amazing collection.
Imagine first making, then developing your own film in the back of a wagon or in a tent.

The engineers for the Trans-Con RR "had to move the railroad west 12 miles to Bryan, Wyoming," because they didn't know the place was settled is a good story. There are several among these captions, and thanks for the history lesson!
