I'm selling my wonderful old friend, this original Dachstein Sweater. It's blue-tagged, which means it's a medium. Rumor has it that you could survice an assault on Everest if you wear this sweater. (Sorry, bad joke).
Somebody make me an offer malcolmdaly(at)gmail.com.

I'm sure someone will be itching to get it.
Someone could start a Supertopo group-buy to purchase this 'Stein for the Wool Stick (from Switzerland) charity.

I never thought about Dachstein sweaters when I posted my Royal Robbins Mountain Paraphernalia thread. Robbins sold Dachstein Mitts as did Chouinard, but I don't know if Robbins stocked the sweaters. My collection of Chouinard catalogs from the 70's show Dachstein mitts in every issue, but never the Sweater.
Who imported those pricy, but near bulletproof, chunks of pre-shrunk wool?
I remember Bruce Franks special ordering one for himself.

I have the sweater and mittens which I still take as a back up when ice climbing, my sweater is also a medium, wore it and wool knickers to a Halloween party. I think my Dachstein came from International Mountain Equipment Concord, NH.

My Dachsteins had the thumb sewn up so it wouldn't get in the way while poling on x-c skis.
They were so used that they had "shaped" themselves to the grip around the poles.
Holes gradually appeared and the greasy old things disappeared.
Most of Robbins' imported sweaters were extremely well-made and serviceable for-effin'-ever!
Three cheers for Royal's choices, as almost always.

When I would come into the house after x-c skiing, my wife would say, "did you let the wet dog in?"

I found a company that has all manner of Dachstein here is their link and header
http://www.sweaterchalet.com/dachstein-woolwear-wool-sweaters-mitts-gloves-socks/
Dachstein Woolwear is a private label brand of a well known Austrian maker of 100% organic wool products, including sweaters, mittens, gloves, slippers, caps, and more.
Dachstein Woolwear is "made from boiled wool in a weave so dense they're almost waterproof" and have been used by mountaineers for their incredible warmth even when they're covered with snow and ice. Extreme cold weather gear famous for decades in the Alps is now available to you.
The Company is based in Styria, Austria and their Motto is: "From Nature with Nature." The products are processed with hot water only and they are proud their business premises and process machinery are heated by a pollution free and long lasting biomass heating system supplied by local forests.

I remember the days when one paid $5 for a pair of the Mitts!
Still have a couple of pair and wear them in winter, especially
good for snow shoveling!
