I don't know, but sure do like that place. Used to go there with my grandparents when I was little. Spent hours every morning before dawn in the canoe with freezing fingers, swatting mosquitos, catching and releasing fish. Once I brought one back to camp. Grandpa cooked it up and we ate it. Grandma, a staunch vegetarian, was beside herself and threw away the pan...it had been irreversibly contaminated by flesh.

N of the lake about a mile or so is a nice cliff, too.

I drove up there yesterday in my convertible and couldn't get through. There was enough snow to make it impassable for my car. There are plenty of tracks through the snow so I'm bringing my truck next time and giving it a go. There are a few downed trees that have already been cut so I'm guessing people have been heading up that way already. I haven't seen the cliff yet so no status on that.

Andrew, did you actually make it to the last single lane turnoff for the lake and campsites? Thanks for posting up... And Jerry, nice photo, I have some great memories of Wrights, and that shot brought a few of em back. Heres to new ones being made this summer...

Cool. I've hiked up to the cliff and want to climb there. I'm free tuesday/wednesday this week, need a partner.
Jody, My first fly fishing was on Wrights, up in the deep channels up stream, and along the creeks dropping in from twin lakes. I could get stockers in the lake with spinners, but the natives liked flies. I'll never forget hiding behind a bush, sneaking up on a promising hole in camoflauge, watching a monster explode from the depths and swallow my fly. Desolation area seems to have been an important formative area for many of us. One summer at Wrights I met this girl from the next camp site... Let's just say I've learned a lot from that place.

Nope, didn't make it that far. My car has pretty low clearance and I was unable to make it much further then Lyons Creek which is still a couple of miles out. It has been pretty warm so I wouldn't hesitate to plan a day there.
