I've sort-of been away from the site for a couple of months and the volume of posts has dramatically increased and the heavyness of the subject matter has also grown. Maybe it's just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I'm reading about cancer, lost parents, suicide, and life altering accidents.

To lighten things up, I hit a home run last night. I used to play HS baseball [3rd base, .425 avg] and now I'm an assistant coach for my nine-year-old daughter's softball team. We had a scrimiage that included the coaches. I hit one over the fence [OK, It was a softball field for nine year-old girls]. Not bad for an almost 43 year-old, soft, out-of-shape, climber/surfer ;) Still, it felt great to watch it sail over the fence and into the poison ivy. The ball is still there; no one wanted to wade into the poison ivy for it.

For my next great athletic feat, maybe I'll try soloing that relatively new A4 seam [Raging Rainbow] up on Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire this summer. Then again, there is a nice C1 crack 10 minutes over the hill...

No Yosemite for me this year :(

Have fun, stay safe!

HI there, hey you know I write a lot about dealing with poison ivy while climbing.

The real trick is to get someone else to clean it...

Famous last words of a few of my friends:

"I don't get Poision Ivy"

LOL, oh but they did, hehe.

Yay! Congrats on the homerun!!

I'll share some not-so-heavy stuff. My parrots wings have been grown out a while and with this come flying, freedom and some attitude. One of my birds, Grace, does absolutely believe she is the center of the Universe. She flies from cage to cage, making herself at home. The funniest thing is that the other parrots let her get away with it and even allow her to have 'sleep overs.' Well, recently, she has morphed from the "Grace, Princess of the Universe" to "Ninja Warrior Death Machine". She flies to Ferne and Clover's cage and begin an epic battle that I have to stop. Who comes out bleeding? ME. So yesterday it was to the vet for wing trims. Grace was pissed, but before the day was over, she again was my Princess. Told you it was light stuff. Still it makes me smile to have my snuggly Love Tick back!

Hey Gunkie

I think your right there has been some pretty serious stuff on the taco lately. My 10 year old daughter has recently expressed interest in softball. We agreed to getting her sighned up for the next season( I look forward to it.) When I returned from indo we went to hit and throw the ball around (fun stuff.)

Thats cool you are sitting on those clark blanks. Of the 2 boards I had shaped before I left, only 1 was a clark, the other being some mexi foam. My shaper liked the way it cut and shaped, and I couldn't tell any difference.

If you ever make it out west with your surf gear look me up, well go surf a Baja point break or something.

Funny stuff! My dad wiped his ass with poison ivy while on a campout when he was a kid. Glad it happened before I was born; otherwise I would have been blamed, somehow.

Crimpergirl: My parrots wings have been grown out a while and with this come flying, freedom and some attitude. One of my birds, Grace, does absolutely believe she is the center of the Universe. She flies from cage to cage, making herself at home.

At one time, my father-in-law had a parrot that he neglected too often and didn't get its wings clipped. So it flys around all over the place and only returns to the cage for sleep time. We're over at his house one summer day [because he has a pool] and he's constantly telling the kids to keep the doors closed to keep the bird in. Kids being kids, they leave the door wide open and the bird is gone like Flash Gordon. He's pissed. After a while it gets dark [like most days do] and someone holds a door open for some reason, probably trash going out, and the bird flys right back in and settles down in its cage. How's that Sting song go?

EPS or polyurethane blank? I like the new EPS, but I'm still not sold on epoxy resins.

I've been to CC and loved it. But it's pretty far. San Miguel or Baja Malibu [beach break] are nice. I've always wanted to hit K38. Then there's always Swami's :)

nature: I dunno.... I thought all my Sushi threads were lite.

Being a Viagra popping bachelor in his nid-60's, my father-in-law is kind of flippant with his food saftey guidelines. This past weekend he was in NYC at some newly-hot sushi restaurant. He knows that I love good sushi. So being the magnanimous guy that he is, he orders about $60 of sushi to go for me. Well NYC is 90 minutes away from us and he neglects to put the sushi on ice.

It was probably good for bait.

radical: Had a pretty cool party for my kid's 7th birthday this weekend. kids are cool.....

True.

When you play in a small school league, you don't play against too many future Sy Young award winners. When we played in the inter-district playoffs I'm pretty sure I struck out [often] against Goose Gossage's kid. And .425 wasn't an outlier in HS baseball. There were a couple of players in our league hitting over .500.

I'm happy to say that none of the kids hit any out of the park. Had a nine year-old kid hit the ball further than I did, I would have had to dig out the old sushi from the trash, eat it and then roll in the poison ivy. Good thing that didn't happen :)
