ST being the vast wasteland of knowledge that it is, I thought perhaps someone here might know the answer to this question.

I want to buy this Big Rig from a place in Kentucky and drive it home to Ventura. Typical 10 Speed, Manual trans sleeper.
I'll get a little training before I go but I don't want a commercial drivers license just to drive this thing home.

Do I need a CDL just to go and get this truck?

Yes, you DO need a Class A Cdl to drive that. Legally.
License it somewhere else, Silver...Easy Peasy. Domicile is immaterial.
So whatinHell are ya goin' to do with that, anyway? A Man With A Plan?

It's Class 8 GVW 33001 - 150000.

The 'not for hire' sign is a good idea.

OK,
It sounds like I do need a CDL but I reeeeeeely don't want one if I can avoid it.

The CA emissions laws coming up may force me to buy in state anyway.

edit:
big plan

edit edit: i do have some friends in AZ...

dude, these guys know their shite.
I need this advice. It may free me up for more climbing if this all works out :)

edit:
Erik, don't you have a CDL? want a job?

That was a good link. From what I read, I could get a non-commercial class A permit for transport of cab only, no trailer. No way around the smog BS though. Even if I buy in state I have to retrofit emissions parts. It is way easier to get it transferred if I buy in state though.
