Hey, does anyone know the status of the fixed ropes from Heart ledges? I am planning on being in the valley at the end of the month and might jump on Salathe. Anyone know what's up?

Talked to a monkey on Monday who said they've got lines from the summit to the base on Freerider...

Just a question here. If you plan to jump on the Salathe, don't you need to do the Freeblast pitches too?

He probably doesn't want to do the Free Blast while carrying six ropes for fixing down from Mammoth. Can't say I blame him.

no, you by-pass freeblast if you've done it 5 times or more... saves all the traffic backups.

For the Salathe', you don't fix down from Mammoth, you fix from Heart. And it only takes 4 ropes, so that is just 2 more than you would have anyway. Very easy - not much different than hauling 2 extra ropes to Sickle (just more pitches).

Thanks guys. Oh, and NO I don't want to haul the FB. I think a pig going up that thing would be hell and if the crowds are their, it would be the equivalent of pulling 50 tourons through a national park on a big green wagon..... Oh wait...

There's usually a fixed cord on the traverse over to the Hollow Flake.

Be a sport and don't use it, unless you have to bail!
