My wife and I just got back from a weekend at Seneca trying to dodge the rain, and I opened the Sunday NY Times that was waiting on the steps. The magazine has a fashion article shot with boulderers at JTree:
Bouldering Style

I think it is the new look for Joshua Tree. My wife looked at my normal climbing outfit of mismatched clothing full of holes (she wears the same) and laughed as she imagined me in the featured Burberry Prorsum pants.

Gotta get me some of those white pants so when I scratch my nuts with chalk all over my hands, it doesn't show.

I notice that the 'models' are named. Are they regular JT climbers? Any ST campers know the story?

I am only guessing that maybe some intern at the paper came up with the idea for the shoot location hoping to scam expenses for a climbing trip.....Hopefully they didn't get the shaft, and left home to do work while some idjit got to play in the desert.

You've got to admit - it would feel pretty sweet to mix business and pleasure and get a good laugh out of it along the way.
looking sketchy there...

HAHAHA

Looks like that TR was wee bit tight -- guessing a middle "C" would vibrate forth if strummed.

I love how only one of the shots contains any of the unique josh landscape. The rest could be from any old pile anywhere.

The rich wanting the "climber look."
Use the word "vintage styled" instead of saying "copy of an old shirt." Put a designer name on it and wham! Profits baby!

The only thing more absurd than that fashion spread would have been a bunch of tuxedoed idiots tugging at bondo in some Manhattan warehouse.

Leo and Ivo told me about a similar thing that Maxim or FHM shot in the Valley a year or two ago. The magazine rented a suite at the Ahwahnee, and filled it with booze to lure in a half dozen noted climbers. Then, they took them out to the base of El Cap, etc., and put Ivy League costumes on them. As payment, the guys got a few nights trashing one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world, and some fancy clothes to provide cover for the early-morning escape.

Wore my new Claibornes the other day; like Edlinger says, "when you feel stylish, you climb stylish..."

Looks to me like they just found random climbers and stuck clothes on em...they shoulda put Tucker T in that YSL cardigan...man, that bouldering pad really tied the room together...

somebody start a thread with REAL climbing fashion from "back in the day"
