most of my picture taking is done by my first generation iPhone. pics aren't very good, but it works.

i'm going to try to take a vacation to Hawaii soon, and want to take a real camera.

i have an older Canon PowerShot S330 Digital Elph, which could be around ten years old. I have a real nice waterproof case for it that will allow me to take down to around 100 feet below the surface.

not a great camera, but it fits my amateur needs.

i haven't used it in a couple of years, but dragged it out of the closet, and it seems to still be functioning properly.

the issue i am having is downloading the photos from camera to my computer.

it used to work great on my last computer, which had Windows XP on it. My new computer has Windows 7.

i went to the Canon website and tried to find some software to download for my new computer, but it appears that my camera might be so old that Canon no longer supports it. i did find some software on the site, but it didn't make a difference.

i'm going to take camera and computer in to a Canon dealer and see if i can get some help, but i might be out of luck.

anyone have any other suggestions?

i'd really prefer not to buy a new camera, but i may have to.

anyone familiar with those GoPro units? they look pretty cool, and have waterproof cases to.

Format the memory card, and see if that solves your problem.

I don't know why, but sometimes it works.

If you gotta go camera shopping, though, there's never been a better time than today to get a great camera ( maybe wait until after Christmas for a deal ).

GoPro just came out with a new version, so you'll probably be able to get a real deal on one of the older ones right now - new in the box.

Does your laptop have a memory card slot? I just download the pics straight from my memory card.

If not you can get external memory card readers.

I second the card reader. Makes life much easier.

If you really want to have some fun, get a card reader, and google " CHDK ".

No! Just Canons.

I don't have a Canon. I'm afraid I'll wreck it.

external card reader sounds like the ticket.
gonna check that CHDK out to.
sounds like problem may be solved, and i won't have to buy a new camera.

Dwaine, i'm plugging along. thx. hope to be back to work by 12/1, but that is real optimistic.

Small HD Camera used to only have 5mp cameras. But our Editor's Choice winner, the GoPro HD Hero2 now has an 11mp camera and can take 10 frames a second with great image quality. So I am now considering selling my point and shoot camera and going with the GoPro (and my iphone). The big advantage of the GoPro is the super bomber case (GoPro's have survived a few BASE fatalities) that is waterproof to 60m and all the mounts that come with it. The image quality is awesome. I think the most important feature in a climber camera is that you can quickly and easily get to it... so you get the great shot. If you have a big expensive camera buried in a protective case, you won't reach for it as often. The GoPro can basically be left dangling on your harness.

The downside is that there is no screen on the back so you can't what you are shooting until you download it later (or you have to buy a $80 accessory). That is a BIG downside to most photographers who want to see what the lighting and framing is like in their images.

It really all comes down to if you even want video. I do, especially because I can then use the camera mountain biking and surfing. But if you are mainly focused on shooting amazing still images (and want something small and affordable), I would get the Nikon P300
