Which is fastest to top of el cap ? falls trail , Tamarac, or Foresta trailhead . Trying to figure out which way is easiest/fastest to have hikers meet climbers on the top of El Capitan.

Whatever hike you choose, E. Ledges via the fixed lines is going to be less than 1/2 the time, maybe 1/4 the time.

If I am carrying a heavy load I like to start at a turnout above Yosemite Creek Campground. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk down a granite ridge to the campground and then is mostly gentle downhill to the top of the falls. It is a beautiful hike and quite enjoyable.

You can hike up the east ledges without a rope. Just keep going right a ways farther and then up. I've done it this way.

Do it at your own risk and if you encounter problems or can't figure it out don't come crying to me.

This approach is for people who have a brain in their head. If you don't have one stay away ....

Job security Werner?

I'm just not seeing the hike across that traverse. I suppose 3rd/4th class is all relative.

Of course any hike from the Tioga Road is subject to closure at any time now. Also not a good place to leave your car overnight from now on. For the same reason.

Great beta from Ken, WB and Warbler.

just made the hike from Foresta Big Oak Flats parking lot to El Cap and back; a nice walk but kind of a slog up and down hill for ten miles

it is nice having running water at several points along the way

we had planned to start from Tamarack Flats, but the road was chained off and there was a big sign saying no overnight parking along the road in that area or beyond; which adds about four miles to the hike; either from Tamarack or Big Oak

wish I'd known about the short cut at the Cascade Creek bridge; I was wondering about that after walking the unnecessary switchback down and back up. (there is a big work project ongoing to repair the bridge)

next time i'll try Werner's route just for fun
