A most important movie, the third in a series:

ZEITGEIST: MOVING FORWARD: the Official Release, 2011

This is a 2 hour, 40 minute internet feature that addresses the state of the world economy and what we must do about it.

Forget the Republican v. Democrat arguments, Capitalism v. other systems, GDP and the Fed. This boils it all down into the idea of a "Resource Based Economy."

Certainly a must view ...

This is actually a pretty good flick. The first 1/2 hour talks about the human mind, it's really interesting.

I know it's a big time investment, but well worth it in terms of food for thought.

Thanks, Kelly!

Ron Kauk sat me down and made me watch the original Zeitgeist. I'm so glad, because it has stuck with me. I sat my kids down to see it and bought several copies to spread around.

I don't buy everything in it, like the slightly paranoid idea that the Federal Reserve is deliberately putting one over on us. Paper money is just a convenient fiction that we all agree on so we can trade stuff. It works, mostly.

Civilization is full of little fictions like the value of paper dollars that just generally grease the wheels. Think of driving on the left. Arbitrary in concept, but it (mostly) works.

The rest of Zeitgeist is quite brilliant. I loved the history of religion segment, deriving all faiths from sun worship. If the new one kicks off with how the mind works, then that sounds similarly sweeping in its point of view, and I'll bet just as powerful.

Off to the Eastside; I'll watch it later.

Peter, glad you found the flick worthwhile.

Hey Doug: East side, GREAT!

This latest Z. flick is really nothing like the first. It address a completely different set of things, almost to the point where I wish they didn't use the old name, but it's still quite fitting.

This version takes a good look at what's broken and what are possible solutions. Non-political, it talks about economic systems.

I found it incredible. I need to watch it again (even though it's a full-bore thing).

While some of the content is a bit Utopian mindset, I find that most is right on the money. Or (if you watch until the end), lack of money ;-)

I am having a hard time finding holes in the logic of a resource based economy.

Unavoidable Truth!!!!

But its a shame that no republican can ever understand the words that are coming out of the speakers.

Or, wait... I can't lay all that on the right....

Its a shame that more people will never understand the un-sustainability of ever growing capitalism (all while watching America fall apart at the seams)

I'll have to wait until the weekend to watch the entire event..... This may take a while

I keep working to find problems with the logic presented... Seems spot on. I like the circular cities too.

Bump to inform.

.....

I am having a hard time finding holes in the logic of a resource based economy.

We're driven to compete to the point of winners and losers, it's in our makeup, it's in the nature of nature and natural selection, too - there's the rub.

No optimum solution let alone perfect solution to the predicament(s) we're in as revealed by the info age to those who are educated. Good luck everybody, fellow primates.
