Will be traveling between Medford OR and Kennewick WA during the week of July 25 on business. Would love to hit *easily* accessible bouldering or climbing near either of these towns. If things go swimmingly at work, I should have some time to hit Medford after work on Tuesday July 26 and Kennewick after the 8 hour drive from Medford on Wednesday July 27 and possibly on the way to catch my red-eye from PDX on Thursday July 28.
I plan to hit Smith Rock on the big drive day, just because I've never been there. Probably just hike around a bit.
Thanks!

We have a gym in Medford with some sweet indoor bouldering.
Local bouldering options are kind of limited unfortunately. There is some granite bouldering in Ashland called Acid Castle. Most people are disappointed in it...but it's outside with a nice view.
Recently some locals have been developing an area near Mill Creek Campground on the upper Rogue River, about 45min northeast of Medford on hwy 62 towards Crater Lake. Slick river boulders, some are pretty big, landings can be sketchy. The manager at our gym has been going up a lot and nabbing lots of FAs, doing a lot of cleaning. Hit him up for beta, his name is Joey.

You should consider having your harness and shoes at Smith. Lots of folks standing around with ropes up, a quick conversation and whoosh: you're climbing. You can boulder as well.
Within visual sight and fairly close to the PDX airport is some nice bouldering as well at rocky butte. If it's not raining. Directions and info on Mt Project for the cliffs, or just google maps it and head to the top where you'll see a sizable man made structure/viewpoint with chalk on it.

Have fun!

Give me a shout when you're in PDX and I'd be happy to show you around either Dropzone or Beacon depending on how much time you have. Here's Beacon (the columns are a pretty consistent 60-70m and most routes are 3-4 pitches)...
Edit: This face is three minutes from the parking lot...

Thanks guys! Matt, I'll try to check out your gym. From what I've seen it looks great! Maybe I'll throw my harness in and try to dog my why up some 5.14 at Smith ;) I have a feeling that anything around Portland will be out only because I'll either be screaming out of there (Mon) or rushing back (Thu night).

If you want to travel 1 hour or so from Kennewick, you climb at the Royal Columns outside of Yakima. They are super fun short with a good range of ratings. It is outside of the season, but if you get up early they might be ok.
