I got a tiny hole in my fly, whats the best way to seal it? Aqua Seal I am guessing? Where can I pick some up and more importantly, Aqua Seal is a brand name, does anyone know the name of the actual compound so I can search for that instead of the brand name (better chance of finding it)?

Any dive shop would have it. Many outdoorsy places, as well.

I was told Seam Seal from a sports shop is the way to go. Any comment?

Very Similar. It would work, I imagine.

Aqua Seal and Seam Grip are identical.

One is marketed for wet suits the other for tents.

The Seam Grip labeling is more widely available.

The same accelerator / thinner works for both, but it's really just an over priced small bottle of MEK.

I've used both, plenty, but use SeamGrip for flys.

I'm not sure what the Aqua Seal is that they seem to be referencing in Russ' link. The Aqua Seal I've seen comes in an identical tube to the Seam Grip.

At Sports Chalet they will have one in the dive dept and one in the backpacking dept. I've used them interchangeably and can't see any difference.

The Thinner is Xylene, but MEK works equally as well and is available at most hardware stores.

Both are a McNett product. I'm pretty sure one (aquaseal) is just thicker than the other, but besides that are the same product. Thinner stuff is easier to slap on seams, and the thicker is better for repairs.

See this too:

Edit: Also heard rumors that "Goop" at the Home Depot is the same stuff. Maybe go with "plumbers Goop" since water is involved. YMMV.

Last edit: Seems the Goop stuff is a silicone based material? hmm....
