One of the mags I read each week is the Weekly Standard. There is a very interesting article (Not in the neo-con category)that is quite insightful and unsettling. " The Counterrevolution in Military Affairs" by Ralph Peters. The article itself is worth the price for those of you who are afraid to touch said mag without rubber gloves.

Ralph is your classic Neo-con warrior very busy and intently using about five distinct threads - military, religious, cultural, technological, and political - in order to:

first, to point out obvious strategic and tactical failings we exhibit when lurching around the globe with our military half-cocked and not allowed to do their job by the morons that put them in harm's way

second, to [classically] exaggerate the culture wars of one that pits nations of enlightened individuals against those of consisting of backwards, parasitically dependent, and unwashed masses

third, to assign the same tired Carlylian blame to the fourth estate and [secular] "Intellectuals" for these failings (that blame way pre-dated suicide bombing)

fourth, to [implicitly] rehash a bunch of the Victorian Fascist bullshit that underpins Neo-con "philosophy" and hopes such as they are

fifth, to dream of an America crowded with smart, white, male youths who can all redpoint 5.13c, do calculus, and personally defend our nation

In other words, to present the same tired bullshit that pre-dates WWI and repackaged twice a decade in different guises in the vain hope that someday everyone will get look up from their TV's, put down those fries, and doggone it - go out there and kick some non-white, third world ass to protect our women and way of life.

Smart military analysts consider this the tip of a rubber spear wielded by people who drift in and out of reality more frequently than a schizophrenic crack-whore in Times Square. And it's not that they don't have some skills, but you don't want to bring one home let alone set them all up with an apartment in the Naval Observatory and the Defense Department.

Woody,

Like any good passion play he starts off with some viable criticism of our military experience. But then, instead of staying objective, he uses that criticism as a base of fear to launch into one the most retreaded political monologues in modern history. It has a fair share of racial / immigration variations and Joe McCarthy plagarized heavily from it. You kind of have to admire their stick-to-the-storyline persistance as it has been paying off handsomely in a thousand subtle ways in all the red states for the past twenty years. Just goes to show it's all in the packaging and never giving up on the pitch.

TradIsGood, I highly doubt Healyje is Juan, so is this your way of dissing him for saying sometime you don't like or agree with. If so, shame on you, a man your age acting like a juvenile. ;-)

Dissing! No!!

A compliment.

So clever to have such complementary personalities.

This is how I figured it out.

How about reading the article then making reasoned comments about it. But, then, that might be too much to ask.
