I realize I have another thread running but I'm hoping this might get specific attention.
In the other thread radical said I should stay on Ton Sai but then noted I probably can't because of lack of quality internet (telecommuting full time). I know I can get internet in Railay.
So I'm heading to Railay in the morning (5/3/11).
If you've been there recently where did you stay and what was your opinion on the place? Should I look at Railay beach East or West? Does it matter?
thanks in advance.

I stayed in Tonsai a couple of years ago, and there was an internet cafe there. In any case its not that far a walk (wade) to Railey. But if you need to be online all day maybe you need a hotel with wifi? Railay has more developed hotels (both east and west), and then there is the $500 to $1000 a night 5 star hotel out on the point. The King and Queen stay there occasionally and other such ilk. I'm sure they have internet. lol

yeah, I need to be online from about 4PM until midnight (local time) five days a week. internet cafe's don't work. I'm ready to go for the simple reason that I have a desk and a chair there with a 23" monitor and very reliable internet.
It's been a tradeoff - on that has taken a toll on my body but at the same time.... well.... dam I'm lucky to have this job and can be ANYWHERE.
I'll check out the 5 star hotel. 1000 bath for 5 star sounds cheap.
thanks for the beta....
Edit: oh sh#t.... you mean $500 to $1000 USD! oooops.... that's not cheap! ;-P

Hey Doug, FWIW, I stayed at the "Diamond Private Resort" on the east side of Railay in 2004. Nice, quiet and a little removed from the beach scene. I'm not sure of their internet services however. It's up about 50 steps from sea level and right next door to a very good and inexpensive Indian restaurant... Back then, a nice cabin with private bath and deck was about $35 per night, including breakfast. Have fun over there!

Up the hill hotel on the left has fancy rooms and internet in Ton Sai. Roughly $30/night. Was there January 11. If you intend to stay for awhile hagle for the room price.

You better get the hell out of there - radicals muslims are going to be looking for revenge on skinhead white skins. Ditch the Bush Tee and grow a beard quick! Got a tweet from the Bluering Council that confirms the threat.
