The ASCA fundraiser and Planet Granite was a huge success!
About 300 people attended and we far exceeded our goal of $20,000...
We raised $30395.85!!
$10484 - from live auction at Planet Granite San Francisco April 27
$2240 in online donations before the event from directed from PG web site
$550 - misc donation checks
$7121.85 - ebay Outdoor Gear auction and PayPal donations between April 15 and 30
$10,000 - match from Planet Granite Gives Back Program
All this will fund bolt replacement for the ASCA for over a year and lead to 2000+ bolts being replaced!
Huge Thanks to Planet Granite for inspiring, organizing and presenting the event:
Jeff Ceccacci, Mick Petts, Renee DeAngelis, Stephanie Ko Pound, Patty Nowak, Justin Vitcov, Carolyn Link, and all the staff who helped out.
And, of course the Planet Granite matching contribution of $10,000 is HUGE! This is part of the Planet Granite Gives Back. For every member, $1 is donated per month to climbing, community and the environment.
Planet Granite also helped raise over $20,000 in 2009. So all told they have been by far the biggest force in continuing the ASCA's bolt replacement work. Thank you!

haha, don't worry about Chris! There are many rebolters clambering for bolts and hangers. I think the $30K is already budgeted for replacing 2000 bolts this year, as Chris already stated.
If ASCA had raised $3 million, rebolters were being paid instead of volunteering, ... then there might be more reason to be concerned.
PG SF donated $10K of the $30K, and have donated for awhile. You can be sure they checked out the organization and its record.
Hmmm, one 60 Minutes hit piece, and now you are unsure about unrelated nonprofits?
Actually, to be more direct, the nonprofits probably make their financials public, including % administrative costs, so please investigate that and report back?

Yep, non-profit financials are publicly available. To save you the trouble, here is our total income past few years (not 2010 yet since I'm working on them now - due May 15th).
2005 25,916.35
2006 17,756.36
2007 26,599.56
2008 18,024.04
2009 38,903.84 (of which 10,223.35 was donated by Planet Granite! - matching their fundraiser and a bit more - so with all the individual donations at that Climb-a-Thon then 20K+ was due to PG's help!)
Here are some details:
Hardware - example 2009 - 17,714.32
Marketing budget: zero
Printing/publishing: zero
Shipping: quite a bit, bolts are heavy (but Flat Rate boxes save us a bundle!)
Membership renewal letters: zero (we don't do them)
T-shirts, etc - still on a 2009 batch that cost about 2K
employee costs (me) - I do get paid, $750 a month (before taxes), no benefits, no health insurance, no retirement, etc. I ran the ASCA 2000-2003 with no pay, then 2004-2007 or so at $500/month.
other employees/accountant/etc - zero, we don't have any
storage costs: zero, no storage unit, donated storage space (big shout out to Paul in Bishop, years and years of supporting the ASCA for free, we might not even exist anymore without his help!)
rental/office space costs - zero, donated
I could look up more details if you want, these details are from our 2009 return (which just happens to be sitting on my desk as I start the 2010 taxes).

Chris and Greg, a fantastic job. Congrats. And especially thanks to both of you for sticking to job for so many years, actually decades. Chris, I can even remember when we incorporated ASCA. As I’ve said many times about the Access Fund, the greatest satisfaction is watching others take up what is your passion and make it their own. Greg did that very early on, and now it appears that many others are embracing ASCA. Well done.
