This thing only has 170 views so wondering if everyone has seen it:

There's more of the interview at bouldervidcast.com... all facinating to me, but John has always been the coolest, to me. :)
Also, I have been converting, archiving, and posting some of my old VHS video camera vids. Below is one of several I'm working on of John from a day 20 years ago where he was my guide. I had climbed with John at Stoney 10 years prior to this, but I don't think he remembered. ;)
Note the cigar and swami belt... classic John Long:

Man, JL Shut that DJ down at the start. He is trying to play it so cool and be radio DJ hipster, didn't know what to say when JL asked him if he can line cut the thing to make him sound interesting. Then pops a chip in his mouth.
Hah! Love it JL

Thanks, Rudder. Your posts led me to another YouTube vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rEVrLdBKaQ&feature=related
I love the local-news-guy-voice, speaking authoritatively of "new routes up Joshua Tree," and John Long having been the first to "climb Yosemite in a day." But other than that, it's fun to look back at 1980...the faces, the EBs, the shorts...the whole dealio.

Pretty good.
Guy on left, trying to be cool.
Guy on right, being himself, is cool. Though we start get twitchy in our 50's.

tsk, tsk--a fall before the first bolt of a trade route. good thing he was toproped. and making an obvious mistake--unnecessary highstepping on face. i thought this guy knew how to climb.

lol, Tony... John was over doing something weird he saw between Stick to What and Legolas, I think. And, he is handicapped by wearing slippers and socks. hehe

Here we are on Forbidden Paradise.
Some of the dialog is pretty funny.
John is so cool that a hot chick named Patty just sits down by him and says, "You're very attractive." She's wearing shorts over lycra and John tells her, "You gotta lose the shorts." hehe
John says, "Hey Mable, you have any lip business with you?" Mable starts walking and John says, "Oh, you don't have to go down there." Jim says, "She does if you want the lip business." John says, "Mable you gotta go down there." lol
Patty says, "I kinda need my locking biner... it's holding those fragrant shoes." hehe
Patty asks John, "You guys are top roping all these?" John replies, "No, we did this one and out of sheer laziness we set a top rope on this one. Laziness and cowardice." I have used that line a million times since. lol
Notice the penalty slack I have near the top, John says, "I always forget, you know, until it's too late." lol

How bout how everyone is stretching in the Stony Point 80s vid!!
Get a kick out of it when Lynn says, "I've fallen 40 feet and just hopped back up on the climb and completed it."
Yikes...

I've always thought they took Lynn's words out of context/sequence for effect. I think Lynn was probalby talking about roped falls. It would be interesting to hear her weigh in...
