In the desert I picked this up on NPR. Amazing.

Artistry now is so advanced you can turn a horrible experience into something spiritual.

In some ways we are rising unbelievably high and in others....................

Brilliant movie and acting, too, jstan, once the hoked-up beginning gives way to the central awful conundrum. If you haven't seen the film, I would highly recommend doing so.

Hey Roxy, trust me, after the first 20 minutes or so, the film becomes a work of art; the actor wears Ralston's predicament like the lizard tail it becomes, that just won't sluff off without a horrendous stroke of genius.

Metanoia comes in different strokes for different folks...

I watched a minute or so of the trailer. The usual testosterone BS designed for 14 year olds. Thanks Jeff. Looks like I have to fast forward.

I ponied up and saw it. The film is problematic on several levels, but what irked me most was the hamfisted effort made to make Ralston appear an aloof, conceited ass. Perhaps he was, but the ridiculous soundtrack and editing employed to this end for nearly 30 minutes made me want to leave my seat.

Jello's right, though: Franco's performance in several scenes rang true, particularly the moment of liberation. As someone annoyed by sentiment, I felt pretty well defeated by the last 10 minutes. Then again, I love UT slots, and have spent a lot of solitary time there.

I'd say it's worth a watch, despite myself.

The trailers are like all trailers, they show the 5 seconds of each of the 4 scenes that have the most:

A) Action
B) Sex
C Awesome scenery

They don't really represent the movie very well.

I was wondering how they were going to turn that one event into a movie, and when I saw the trailer, I thought, "Oh, they have all of this back story, and girls, and ....". Nope, after the first 10 minutes or so, it's pretty much just franco. He is good.

I knew the story pretty well down to all of the details before I saw it, and I still found it interesting. I also think Danny Boyle is good director, and did appreciate how he cut the movie, including the music.
