I am re-reading Scince of Breath by Ramacharaka. Here is an interesting, if tenuous, connection between climbing and yoga. Anyone else have quality yogi climbing related quotes or pix from books?

They kicked me out of yoga when I insisted on doing the downward cat.

Pranayama stresses the body with low oxygen levels. This is the same stress as breathing at high altitude, and will condition the body to adapt, acclimating even when practiced at sea level.

thanks for that, Paul.
It's great to see Chris fail at yoga ;-)
if he ever figures out how to connect to the mid-line and tuck his tail bone he probably could press bakasana into handstand.

With so many "helpful" people around, I can totally understand his "fail" ;)

It's just he's so f'ing good and strong at climbing it's nice to know I can do something a little "better" than him (at least until he works at it a little more - then I once again will be the one "failing").
I honestly hope he sticks with it. It would probably take his climbing to a whole new level (which is just a sick and twisted though - 5.16d+?)
Shiva Rae took a liking to him so he's got that going for him.

Always thought this one looked like a type of tree pose.

John Friend hiked Angles landing a few years back...
when he got the top he went to the edge and pressed into handstand.
Edit: 5.13 Tree Pose.

yeah, good observation. wasn't grounding down at the base of the index finger. that'll compress the wrist and lead to bad things happening in short order.
and doing arm balances on carpet over grass just isn't a good idea for the wrists.

Does anyone besides me think that yoga is often narcissistic?

I tend to believe it's more nihilistic.

I do yoga in a hot room (when I can) lined with mirrors.
In my most profound states, I can will my reflection to dissappear. First to black and then totaly gone. I can see the person behind me in the mirror as if I was not there.
I am not joking.
I liken it to the blind spot we all have in our eye sight. Our brain fills in the part we are blind to. Often correctly, but sometimes not...
The mirror thing may be my mind filling in the blanks I create for it through meditation, breathing and assanas. A painted touchup in the mind.
Or I might actually be tapping into the ability to see through myself in my reflection.
