An excuse for a Government take over of BP?
Wouldn't be surprised? They're taking over everything else.
All part of the socialist democrat/progressive agenda.

Nah, it's not like that at all.
The Texas Oil boys, Haliburton in the lead, have sabotaged the BP platform
so they can buy BP at a low price and then drive it out of the oil market.
In order to cover and point the finger to Obama and his US socialists, they
hired a former soviet submarine, which knocks off all attempts at a fix, and is crewed by Al Quaida's branch "Al Quatica", specially trained in Saudi Arabia. Now, the FBI and CIA are in on it, but they have been infiltrated by the evil crones of Papa George HW. The evil crones are waiting to make their move, and that's when Florida will declare bankrupcy after a failing season of tourism and the refusal by Obama to send Federal $$ for environmental disaster. When the war of the crones starts, all oil producing countries in the world and in all far far away galaxies, including the entire former (British) empire, will be under the authority of a new American-Saudi-Iraqi-Kuwaitian emperor: Jebb Premier!!
Yep friend. It's all true.

It is easy to get sucked into the conspiracy theories but at this point it doesn't really matter what happened . . . it is all bad. I was fool enough to start to consider the North Korean link until I heard some clown talking up the Haliburton connection and he was claiming that this particular reservoir of oil was linked to North Dakotan and Venezuelan oil deposits via some vast conduit! He obviously knows nothing about geology and such promotion by idiots is reason enough to dispel these various theories.
Hopefully this is enough of a wake up call to get us humans to clean up our act and think about the future for a change.

http://www.energy.gov/oilspilldata
The target reservoir for the Macondo Well drilled by Transocean for BP is at ~18,000 ft below sea level...13,000 ft from the ocean bottom (in oil patch lingo the"mudline"). If you go to this website www.energy.gov/oilspilldata, you can see the construction details for this well. At the time of the accident, Halliburton had just cemented the last string of casing, the 7-inch production liner. This production liner was to be perforated at a later date by a different rig after running a cement bond log to evaluate the integrity of the cement job. All of these strings of casing are required to drill a well to these depths through different formations with different pressures and lithologic characteristics. MMMS requires that each string is cemented a minimum of 500 ft inside the next larger diameter casing. So these casings are "telescoped" down to the 7-inch production liner. The inner most piping that changes diameter and shows the "16-inch burst disk sub" is drill pipe that is used to cement in the production liner. The plan was to produce this well from the sea bottom at a later date. BP managers were on the rig celebrating their safety record when the well blew out.
It blew out after BP decided to replace the mud column with seawater prematurely to speed things up (drilling mud is much heavier than seaH2O and used to overbalance any pressures in the oil reservoir & prevent the well from blowing out). The well was costing BP ~$1M/day to install and they were several weeks behind schedule, so BP managers, on board the rig over-ruled the Transocean drilling manager and made the decision to replace the drilling mud in the well with seawater. IMHO whoever made that decision is criminally liable along with whoever ignored the failed blowout preventer (BOP) tests and "rubber chunks" in the drilling mud. According to testimony during the recent hearings, both the BOP & cemented casing failed different tests before & after Halliburton's cement job of the production liner. There was a discovery of "rubber chunks" in the drilling mud several days before the accident. The origin of the "rubber chunks" is probably the result of some kind of failure of the annular seal in the BOP. All of this indicated that the well was out of control and should have been addressed at the first site of "rubber chunks" in the mud. According to recent testimony by Transocean's Well Control specialist, when he activated the "blind or shear rams" on the BOP right before the oil & gas hit the surface and the blow out occurred, he saw immediately that the hydraulics to actuate the shear rams had failed (i.e., no hydraulic pressure). At this point he knew the "sh*t had hit the fan" and he got the hell out of there by sprinting to the life boats.
In short, this was a colossal series of bad decisions made mostly by complacent and over-confident BP managers trying to cut costs. This could & should have been avoided. I know it's "fun" to generate conspiracy theories and bash the government, but you might want to review the facts first. Like I've said on other threads, the only "silver lining" on this dark cloud is that this might finally convince Americans to start to abandon hydrocarbon-based energy sources for "cleaner" alternatives.

It simply can't be the fault of private industry. They know best and are vastly superior to the government, which must be at fault because it can't do anything right.
Make no mistake- there are massive public relations efforts feeding the news, fighting to form your opinions right now.
This stuff is coming from the folks that don't want new regulations, or logical but pricey prevention techniques, like pre-drilled back up wells.
On the other side, the government types are trying to get us to think that the companies are completely at fault. Their motivation is, as always to remain in power and keep the corporate donations flowing and maybe bring about some sort of regulation that may help prevent this non sense in the future.
I'm a news reporter by trade, people are always fighting for your mind. The press usually has no choice but to go along with it- presents both sides of people fighting for your mind, if they are pretending to be fair.
Truth, is a different beast than fairness.

When you hear things like this, you have to ask who benefits from telling you these things. What is their angle, what are they selling?
We have an unnamed poster dropping a bunch of links on climbing website spewing a bunch of non-sense. What's the point?
As long as the government keeps it damned dirty hands off our medicare- I'll be fine. If I live to 65 of course.
