The life ins. co.'s are asking a lot more specific questions now to rate climbers...

they forgot "how high is your internet pedestal?" and "Do you or will you in the next 2 years threaten anyone on any climbing related internet forum?"

In my experience if you state you are a climber they will lump you in with all climbers and require you get full climbing coverage which includes high altitude expeditions such as to Everest regardless of what type of climbing you do. The cost of climbing coverage is comparable to that of being a cigarette smoker. It is expensive but worth it in my opinion.

fill this form out , and you are considered high
risk for ever . If you ever get hurt climbing,

forgo your ego and say the injury happened

falling off a ladder at home.

I could only answer no to one question - Do you plan to climb in the off season? No - there is off season.

Apparently 'Chocks, hexes and nuts' fall into a completely separate category from 'Stoppers'.

Interesting. My questionnaire was completely different, and I actually spoke to an underwriter who knew climbing. When all was said and done, I did not pay an additional premium.

You might want to consider a different insurer if that's all the questioning they do -- and charge you extra.

I bought Travel Guard extreme sports medical evac (or something like that).
It won't cover all medical costs, but it's specifically for climbing, ski touring, other "high risk" activities. Haven't filled a claim yet though (knock on wood). Does anyone have a policy with them and has filled a claim?
Or with the evac insurance through the American Alpine Club?

My previous "sports" insurance had a "take the harness off first because
you were just hiking" policy.

Cheers
