Its kind of cool to have created such a neat instrument that is now in 200 schools across America. Complete design done by me Sensor, Amp, Micro controller Interface. When my Depression takes hold and I see myself as a loser watch the following vidoes lifts my heart

Definitely cool.

You know part of your depression might be from not having a project to work on intensively. Many creative people go into a funk when they finish a major project. It's such a let down.

In that case, time to come up with a new one.

Juan De Fuca, what's your next project?

wouldn't it be cool if all those schools linked together their results on Google Earth or something and had their own earthquake network...

gps moving plates,
interferometry,
microgravity,

there are not enough instrument builders, and without them there is no science...

...relax and have some fun Juan de Fuca, your next project will visit you.

I always thought that references to Juan's seismometer were
an insiders' joke; au contraire! That is most commendable Juan!
Keep up the good work!

Jeff's design:

A more advanced and sensitive seismometer unit is the AS-1. Developed by Jeff Batten, aka Amateur Seismologist.

Jeff seems to have had his own seismology website: http://www.amateurseismologist.com/

And a ton more about the AS-1: http://www.jclahr.com/science/psn/as1/

Google "AS-1 Batten seismometer" and all sorts of stuff appears.
