You can buy a 72 catalog online for $375 right now (rare books dealer...). It's getting totally crazy. I cherish mine, but may have to put it on the auction block before people recover their senses :-o

Wow, I think I might have two copies -- they sent me an extra because I got quoted in it.
Had no clue those things would someday be worth money!

Is it the 72 or 74 catalog that has the Robinson clean climbing article? How much does it go for? Anybody know?

And what about this one? EDIT: Just noticed the date on the price list... not 1968 as I thought, but Feb 1971.

That's ebay for you! One week it is $250.00, the next it is $15.00.
This is either the 1975, 1976, or 1977 catalog that was auctioned (all three have the same cover).
Each year Chouinard produced 35,000 copies of this catalog which was originally free. Since the catalogs were used as a retail store tool, there is a good chance that the majority of these catalogs got tossed out once the newer Chouinard catalog arrived. The surviving catalogs that we are seeing are probably the ones that Chouinard mailed to individual climbers. The glue on these catalogs is very brittle and the pages fall out easily. Basically the more you look at this catalog, the more individual pages you get.
$250.00....cough. More like $35.00 - $50.00 value (mint).

I'm curious now about the rest of my "vintage" catalogs and gear. I may still have some REI catalogs going back to the days when it was an outdoor equipment store. More importantly, I still have some Peck Crackers, Clog hexes and wedges, a Forrest I-Bar, and God knows what else. I was thinking of selling some duplicates from my stamp collection, but heck, my old climbing gear may all be collector's items!

Check
http://www.bookfinder.com/

There is a Chouinard 1975 Equipment Catalogue listed for $70

Be sure and check for old Alpinist mags. Some guy ia AU is apparently trying to corner the market. $15 - $200 each! Hunt brothers? I have a full set, including #0, anybody want to offer a couple grand for them?
